The Edinburgh Fringe Deity

This is our second pilgrimage to the fringe for our August ritual. As all fringe performers will know, doing the Edinburgh festival means that each company member has to turn their skills to every job. Currently I am actor, director, producer, publicist, photographer, stage hand, props builder and the all important flyerer. However, it is the acting that gets my heart racing, the adrenaline pumping and most importantly, the calories burning. Oh how things have changed since last year’s fringe. My performing roles have progressed from Soho prostitute (Don Juan in Soho
2009) to a nun (Virtuous Flock 2010) this year. Perhaps a divine calling I think?

It has been an eventful start to the Edinburgh Fringe this year. The train journey from King Cross to Waverly was quick and easy, however the full carriage did not seem too impressed with a group of excited actors.  Upon reaching our final destination in old town, a tiny 3rd floor flat housing 8 of us, we had realised that we had someone else’s luggage by mistake - a test sent from the Deity? After rummaging through the belongings of this mystery traveller; boxer shorts, a Sean the sheep flannel and a theatre producing book, we concluded that it must belong to one of the many Ed fest participants. In the panic, a small business card belonging to a producer from Seabright Productions fell on to the floor out of the theatrical book, a miracle! We had tracked the bag’s owner and to our surprise found out, after phoning him, that he was only staying up the road from us. Another edfringe disaster averted; we had been saved. The next test sent to try us was the case of the missing costume. I am not surprised that more does not go missing with the 500 miles of schlepping and travelling to get here. Much love goes to the charity shops and emergency tailor who made us another costume in 4 hours! Oh the miracles were coming fast. N10 were also delighted and humbled to have been the runners up of the Zebra award prize (best Edinburgh Fringe Poster) from Dupliquick printers this year. How nice of those folks and we truly felt blessed.

The highlight of our Fringe is always our travels up the Royal Mile; selling our souls. In 2009 we creating a wedding procession and this year a funeral procession with coffin bearers and nuns. Let’s hope the Diety grants us sunshine and packed audiences for 2010, amen and peace be with all Ed Fringe luvies everywhere.

Hello Edinburgh!

We have finally arrived! After a very quick 5 hour train ride we were greeted with the traditional Edinburgh welcome; rain and a coincidental meeting with another theatre company. This was as a result of identicle bags and a member of n10 taking home someone elses bag! Luckily they too were here for the fringe and were staying on the same road as us! Very lucky. Technical rehearsal: 8am..

Another great plug for Virtuous Flock.

Stuffed Coffins

Our set and props are on their way to Edinburgh! They were picked up today by Backhand theatre company who are also taking up their set. We spent all morning trying to figure out how to fit all our props into 2 coffins... We managed it! So our stuffed coffins and our bath will wait for us in C soco on chambers street until the 1st August. In the meantime the v flock cast will reunite and rehearsals will once again commence. Only 2 weeks to go!

Previews done and dusted - Bring on Edinburgh

We managed to get through the previews last week! Although we suffered a few technical difficulties, on the whole, the previews went down a treat. We had much positive feedback. The audience's laughter prohibited the actors from being able to get a word in edgeways which i suppose is a good thing! Any one who saw it - thank you so much for all your support and we hope you enjoyed it. We would very much appreciate to hear your thoughts on any of our review pages listed below:

4 days until previews..

N10 Productions have had a crazy three days in preperation for the London Previews which begin on Thursday!

We have all been madly gluing, painting, shopping, begging and borrowing - this includes a trip to Homebase in which the manager was witness to myself and the stage managaer's shameless charm and a very ominous phone call from our director all so we could return a piece of set that was just a little bit too big! We have also had major paint spillages, in cars and in rehearsal spaces which resulted in much scooping and scrubbing. On top of all this, in our first full dress rehearsal today we had a power cut so the audience who had come especially to see the play had to watch it without lighting, sound or live music! Luckily - the power came back half way through and they insisted we start from the beginning so they got to see it in all it's glory after all. Their feedback was very positive and much appreciated.

Overall, the week has been incredibly productive and the show has finally come together through the exhaustion and the heat and we can't wait for you all to see it!

Excited to see our Fringe entry on page 302! (Left page in the middle of top row)

Monday, 7 June 2010

Had a very early morning rehearsal today - not at our most creative I must say, but we went through the acting in a few scenes which improved them imediately, so quite useful. We had to rehearse outside though because there wasn't a space free for us to use for rehearsals. Good job it was a nice day!

We will be going on a hunt for the Fringe programme on Wednesday. Last year we found it in Rocket in Camden so i think i will be making a trip to Camden on Wednesday! Please let us know where you find yours!

Very excited!

The coffins arrived! Despite being a little creapy they are brilliant and look amazing on stage under the lights! We were debating how to put hinges on them to keep the lid attached without completely ruining them. We decided to think about it over the weekend.

We can't wait to show the coffins off on the Edinburgh royal mile in August - Look out for the procession of Nuns, coffins and a the flock of vultures... You won't be able to resist coming to see the show.. See you all there!

Rehearsals

N10 Prodcuctions spent the whole day inside today rehearsing and painting the set. We therefore missed the lovely weather but we did get a lot done! We now have gravestones and a bath - rust free!

Our coffins are arriving tomorrow (from the morgue) - Yes we ordered them from a morgue but they haven't been used and they're free so we figured it was acceptable.

We did our first full runthrough today - the play is finally coming together and it only makes us more excited to get to the Edinburgh Fringe in August!
